Earth Hour's Vote Earth

Why is Copenhagen so important?

Increasing greenhouse gas emissions could result in disastrous consequences for people and nature. The global community will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009 to agree on a new global climate deal aimed at protecting the future of our planet.

Thank you for helping to make Earth Hour the largest climate campaign ever.

But we’ve only just begun.

In December 2009 world leaders meet in Copenhagen to decide how we deal with climate change in the coming, critical years.

What sort of future would you have them choose for us?

Hundreds of millions of people have already voted for Earth with their light switch.

Now is the time to show where you stand.

Now is the time to Vote Earth.

But what was Earth Hour?

On March 28th 2009, 8.30pm local time, almost 4000 towns and cities across 88 countries visibly demonstrated their growing concern over climate change by turning off their lights for 1 hour.

This was Earth Hour.

It was not about saving energy.

It was instead a massive, global and overwhelming signal to our nations' leaders to say that climate change is important.

That it matters a great deal.

And that we truly care.
